Yesterday(technically speaking) was my Birthday! Unfourtunately, I don't want to be 20 Yeres old. I don't wanna not be a Teen anymore. I feel like I have to be more responsible now, cos I'm not a "Teenager"... Haha. Anyways, to be able to celebrate my Birthday in China, was a very new Experience! In the Morning, my Friend took me out for some Hainan Noodles because Noodles are long and symbolise Longevity(Go figure). So, we had some Hainan Noodles and we walked around the Streets of Huangliu for a Bit. She tooke me to a Shoppe in a Part of Huangliu I had never seen. She bought me a Shirt with a Soldier on the Front and underneath, it reads: Americans wounded:21077 Americans killed:2803
HOW MANY MORE MUSY DIE?
GIVE PEACE A CHANCE
I realise that there are some Mistakes, but the Point of it is Peace. I liked it, so that was my Birthday Gift from her. Later in the Day, I talked online with Ciara and Katie for a while, which also made my Day a little happier(not that I was having a bad Day, but I always get happier when I talk to People like them, haha).
Afterwards I had 3 Classes, and then I was invited to have Huangliu old Duck with some Friends from the Media Room here at the School. I know, Huangliu old Ducks sounds like something really nasty, right? It's really good though. Huangliu is famous for it. They raise Ducks until they cannot lay anymore Eggs, and then they kill them and boil them, and they have Eggs inside of them! It's really delicious.
Afterwards I went Home for a bit and my Mom called me. This also made me all that much happier! :) About 21:00 my Tyme, I went to Mrs. Wendy's Flat and she gave me some red Birthday Eggs. I had no Idea how important Eggs were!! Because Eggs are round, the Chinese believe we should eat them on our Birthday to symbolize a happy Life(The End of a Circle is just as good as the Beginning). The Eggs are boiled and painted red. Red is a very lucky Colour in China. She cooked 9 Eggs, because 8 is a lucky Number, BUT 8 isn't enough for the Amount of People, but the Word for 10 in Chinese sounds like the Word for Death. The Word for 9 sounds like the Word for long. So this again represents Longevity. She asked me to peel the first Egg. Of Course in many Birthday Traditions in the West, the birthday Boy/Girl gets the first Piece of Cake and the first Dibbs at everything, so I thought this was just a kind Gesture like that. After I peeled it, she asked me, "Do you know why I asked you to peel the Egg first?"
Of Course I had no Idea. "Because when a Snake's Skin becomes too old, he peels it off revealing a fresh new Skin. Now you have peeled off your old Skin, do you feel younger?"
So, apparently Eggs, are not to be taken as a Joke in China. Haha, Confucius say, "Egg hold many Meaning!!!"
btw I got them saying "Ancient chinese Secret" when they teach me anything about chinese Medicine, haha!! They don't completely understand why I think it's so funny, lol.
